Cap Verga – Guinea

Ntonga Group Holdings along with Alufer Mining Limited have partnered together on a Masterplan for the Cap Verga region in the Republic of Guinea. Cap Verga is a region where Alufer Mining Limited have planned to build and operate a bauxite mine. The collaboration is aimed at defining a spatial development plan that will foster sustainable development in the region.

BACKGROUND

Guinea has major deposits of bauxite, gold and iron ore, as well as deposits of diamonds and the potential for production of alumina and smelting of aluminium. Deposits are found in Maritime Guinea (Fria, Kindia, Boke), Middle Guinea (Labe, Gaoual) and Upper Guinea (Tougue and Dabola). The study area in the Boffa prefecture is located about 160 km from Conakry, the capital city of Guinea. It is bounded on the east by the Fria prefecture, on the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the north by the prefectures of Boke and Telimele and to the south by that of Dubreka.Agriculture and fishing remain the two main economic activities of this rural municipality. Despite the great potential in this region, there is limited planning to ensure an integrated and sustainable sub-regional development.

THE PROJECT

This long-term project will be coordinated with the Ministry of Town Planning in the Republic of Guinea, under Ntonga’s Project Office. The main objective of the cooperation is to develop a sustainable development framework for the greater Cap Verga region that will include, but not be limited to, urban development plans, tourism development, agricultural and fishery projects of the Cap Verga region, with a strong focus on local economic development. The scoping of a regional developmental plan has been initiated by Ntonga and is now being integrated with the Alufer Mine and Port developments.
